    Please help!
Train to Bristol to picked up my B8 59 plate A4 2.0tfsi 75k on the clock full Audi service. MMI oil level had 50% before setting off 200 mile trip home.
Woke next day like exited child. After 1hr driving MMI 0%. Bristol Garage states been sat for a while. Added the 1 litre as the car asked. Up to 90%
Next day after 1hr driving 65 % oil. Then foot down and no power. Parking hand brake error come on traction disabled!!! Engine light on
Vagcom showed all sorts. After checking MAF / turbo / ABS local Audi specialist found intercooler hose come off. Also found no 3 piston had oil in it!!! Very black spark plugs. Insist PCV is ok.
    Car drove away like new…smooth fast…..but oil 40% .
Next day fingers crossed 50 miles driving….oil 20%!

So car for 6 day….500 miles …. Burned 0.5 l oil already in it and have added 2 litres of my own…

    Help!!!!

Oil consumption issues with the 2.0 TFSI seem to be a common compliant ...

    Link:- http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/audi-s4...d-b8-@68k.html

IIRC in that thread I think Audi are aware/cover under warranty some stuff ...

Ok had bit of a root around, there seems to be a software update for engine ECU which is checked for or done before they apply next fix which is piston rings.

Their out of spec definition is engine oil consumption of more than 0.5 L per 1000 km (622 miles approx) from what I read.

It is only done under warranty if not expired, it is not a recall.

In the tech info for when they replace rings they state from MY12 (ie 2011) they optimised piston rings so the high levels of consumption don't occur.

If you would like copies PM external email.

thanks very much for time to reply.

Audi said no recalls. Been told if piston rings are the issue there is no doubt alot of other seals/problems underline.

What i want to know is how this happened? Car mint and full history? And if i spend Ł1k to repair will it happen again?

    Hi mate ...

Yep it is not a recall I've said that in post 3 , it is a technical bulletin ...

Technical bulletins are like guidance by manufacturer for VAG dealer servicing departments, usually formed from data collected from failures out in real world and testing IMO ...

The piston rings are a production issue which has been resolved in MY12 (Model year 2012) model year is an American format which runs a year ahead of real year. So MY12 = 2011 production model/year ...

Let's say you walked into Audi main dealer the service advisor will punch in your VIN, he'll cross ref you compliant against TPI/TSB database ...

He may first suggest this may resolve issue :-

Technical product information Transaction No.: 2024604/25
Engine oil consumption too high - 2.0l TFSI (EA888) Release date: 29-Nov-2012

That is title of the ECU update TPI / TSB ...

If problem persists he may then next say this maybe the issue :-

Technical product information Transaction No.: 2026749/8
Engine oil consumption too high after completing TPI 2024604 - 2.0l TFSI (EA888) Release date: 01-Dec-2012

This is the title for the one where they replace pistons/rings/conrods ...

I have sent you extra info in PM ...

Again this is my interpretation from your description/tech info/web posts ...

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
Had an emmisions test today and its fine! zero all round! I was hoping with the oil consumption it would fail. Unless the cat convertor is soaking it up?

Another thing the car "shuddered" when we turned the engine off????
Anyway getting an engineer to look at it today ..not sure how he will prove 2.5 litres gone!!
    :-(

Hi, I bought an A5 2.0l TFSI Quattro as an Approve car from Audi (46,000 miles). I have now done 2000 miles and have used nearly 3.0l of oil (I had to top it up after only a couple of weeks). It's currently in with Audi for an oil comsumption test. Many thanks for your information on this issue. I get the results later this week but I can't see it passing.

If you bought it as an approved car from audi you shouldnt have any problems getting it sorted.
I bought mine from the carshop and my local audi dealer have been super so far, infact they have the car back in for another oil comsumption test.

Hi, just heard back from Audi and they are now going to replace pistons, rods etc under the warranty. This is great news and Bath Audi have been excellent. They had to follow the process of oil comsumption test parts 1 & 2 (actually remove all the remaining oil to determine how has been used). Looking forward to getting it back.
