Btw guys I be noticed to get the right oil level from your MMI please make sure you drive your car a few Km’s and then make sure it’s parked at the ground level, turn off the engine rather then giving it 2 minutes, give it good 15 minutes go back to the car turn the ignition on (not the engine) and give few minutes for system to initialise and then check your oil level proven way it will give you exact measurements

I've recently bought a 2010 A3 1.8TFSI with 62k on the clock (private sale). Turns out it burns 1l of oil in under 200 miles. It's got full history (non Audi). Anyone know if Audi will cover any cost to replace the rings or am I on my own given the age?

On the EA888 engine it is not the rings that are the problem, it is the mostly pistons themselves. They were such a bad design that the VAG parts system states quite forcibly that if you have any stock of even the piston that superseded it, that you MUST NOT sell them, never mind fit them and also the connecting rods have to be changed as they have a redesigned offset to stabilise the new design piston. If Audi UK would help on a decade old non dealer maintained car I would be stunned and to even start the process you have to go through a pre organised oil consumption test involving the weight (not volume) at the start and at the end of the test with everything sealed to prevent tampering, if they refuse, you pick up the bill. IF the test shows a consumption in excess of 0.5L per 620 miles (i.e. per 1000Km) then IF the vehicle has a full Audi dealer purchase and service history, they MAY contribute to the replacement of the pistons and rods......MAY...
