I've had the car since new and intermittently over the last four years the rear view camera has stopped working. It pops out but there is only a blue screen on the display. The next time I used reverse however the camera always started working again and I had no further problems for months. Now the situation seems to be permanent. Just a blue screen at all times. Any ideas? Golf GT 160

First of all you need a fault code scan to see if the camera is actually at fault (which I'm guessing it is).

Since you've had the car from new, I would maybe try a goodwill gesture from VW if you have full VW SH? Can't do any harm asking.

As Chris says get your motor scanned for any error codes there are 3 that I know of.

The rear camera on a mk6 Golf does suffer with a bad water drain. Install drainage for the Golf Mark VI Rear View Camera (RVC) installed in a Golf Mark VI

Not really. Wish I had. I did mention that it was an intermittent fault during the warranty period that I should of mentioned but got no response.

Quite a common fault this one. The camera popping in and out all the time causes the wires to break.
They always seem to break flush with the camera body, so no way to reconnect it.

Thank for info and picture will keep a eye out on mine for any problems before warranty over I understand what you mean about the camera popping up every time you use reverse they should be some way of switching it of and then put on if you need it.
