Had a call this morning for a recall on the steering control unit - not safety related but they wanted the car in soon???

Mine's an A7 with no lane sense stuff.

They gave me no details of what was actually wrong with it - any ideas?

Could this be the "notchy" steering?

Just heard first recall in our country, too. Waiting how long it takes with my dealer to call my A6C7...
Yes, related to not notchy but slippy steering = software update.

Rumours from motortalk.de and some others say that it will be better but the steering is much lighter than before. My opinion is that the steering is already too light, driving always in dynamic because of that. Some are recommended to wait for a while to see the feedback.

In Germany, they compensate this with free oil change in next service, in Finland just free movie tickets. Do you call this a customer service?

Had the 'firmware' update done on my car - there is a different feel to the steering - cant decide if it more responsive or lighter - but there is a difference, haven't decided if I like it or not.... I tried switching between 'Comfort', 'Dynamic' and 'Auto' - didnt seem to make too much of a difference - but journey was only 10 miles....

I suspect that after driving the car a bit, I will adjust to the different feel of the steering...

Since I had the update while I waited, dealer asked if I would like the car cleaned - not that it was that dirty anyway, but I agreed - outside of the car nice and clean - but I got a ding on the aluminium trim near the gear stick.... not pleased..... dealer apologised for damage and will order new trim to replaced trim.... apparently the cleaning is done by a contractor.....

Not heard anything this end. I'd be interested if anyone figures out what this is fixing / if it only affects cars with specific options.

Even if they're not saying it's safety related problems with the steering make me a bit nervous!

It's something to do with behaviour when it's cold was as much as I could gleen from Audi when I asked specifically what was wrong - they only changed the software, no components so maybe there was a bug?

It's to cure a "notchy" feeling when trying to hold the steering in a stright line, the issue is normally only felt in cold conditions, it can affect all A4,A5,A6,A7 etc with electomechanical steering, just a software up-date...hope that helps!!

Short, unofficial and incomplete summary from our forums:
    - A4 basically gets better, a bit heavier, better stability when driving straight and on a sidewind, notchiness gone
    - some A4 still returns notchiness after a while, after wet weather or so. Same time it is more notchy because of heavier response
    - A5 ok/nok, or cannot say. Response changes and power effect changes too
    - A7 worse, over powered, too loose centre position, too light in low speeds
    - A6 still no feedback, and I will probably cancel the reserved update until got feedback. Mine is not so bad, so don't want to go worse.
What I' m looking for is better side wind stability and occasionally notchiness (or a slip in the middle, would say). I it is oing any lighter, I deny to get the update.
A6 4G 2012 Avant S-Tronic 3.0 TDI quattro 180 kW, Dakota Grey, adaptive air suspension, Comfort package & leather seats, all electric seats/mirrors/steering wheel/trunk lid, light package, aux heater, towbar
