    Hi all,

I bought a 2008 3.0TDI Avant a few months ago, in the most part i am happy with but there are some niggling issues, the fuel gauge had a wobbly about 6 weeks ago then was fine until a couple of weeks ago and now, nothing, tried brimming it and no luck, it just says it is empty all the time and beeps at me whenever the ignotion is turned on. I took it ti my local dealer who said that the senors in the tank were fine but something to do with the wiring. Has anyone any experience of this??

That is a great help and very useful document chaps, thank you very much. Do you know the background of these documents? Are they some kind of VAG bulletin?

    Same problem here previously

Part is £20 from memory and an hours labour, its the electrical lead that balances the saddle tank. If it's this and your having it done then I'd suggest:

    1) Removing your seats before you take it in
    2) Ensure your tank is less than half full (easier said than done with a non-working gauge)
    3) Order two new gaskets for the fuel tank stoppers and replace even if their not needed

Be prepared for some diesel spillage.

    Good luck!

This cost me £215 at the dealer to have fixed. Quite a tricky job and i was going away the next day so didnt have much choice.

Audi fix kit is circa £19 i think and the rest was labour.

Thx for the tips above. I had the empty gauge issue and went and bought the wiring repair kit and found a copy of the uberlame TBS pdf guide on the wayback machine. Cost about £27 from Audi despite the parts manager stating it didnt exist! Fiddly job as had to remove both senders on my quattro 3.0 tdi to replace the wire that runs from one to the other. I noticed that there was a diesel leak around one of the fuel lines because some idiot had mashed up the connector so when full the tank was leaking. So £33 bought me the fuel line from my local TPS (localAudi garage never bothered returning my call).

Next job is thew wiper motor as I can see the water feed pipe is all rusted up...
