Gonna do an oil change before a trip to France and not surprisingly it doesn't say in the manual as they no doubt expect everyone to get a main dealer to do it who will gladly rip you a new for the privalege. Little pet hate, not putting vital info in manuals for DIY'ers! So how much do i need?

According to my User Manual its 3.8 for the 2.0 TDI 100/103kw.

Page 365/366 and also on the electronic MMI manual in the car.

Thanks Chris, assumed it would be in the "oil" bit on 280

When in doubt (with other cars) I've just marked the inside of a bucket with liter/half liter intervals and put in half a liter less than I took out, run for 10 mins check dipstick and top up.

Is how DIYers have done for years

Always a good idea to buy oil in bulk for cost saving and there's quite a few threads of how/where if you search the forum on your oil viscosity

I'm assuming you only need long life oil if you are changing the oil every 2 years? I'm gonna do it every year as it's done 118k now, and i already have 2ltrs of Esso in the boot so was gonna get more of the same.

Nope the oil is the same for the fixed and the longlife.

That oil above is just Castrol Edge with a VAG label.

Rosscow started a thread where he found 20 litres of oil for something like £80 odd quid, which is a lot better than buying in the 4 litre bottles at £35 obviously. I'll see if I can find the thread.

That is a bargain! Unfortunately can't afford that right now so will just get another 2ltr bottle for now.
Do people that change their oil annually change the filter as well, or still every 2 years?
