With my car on just over 90k miles I added some Auto-rx to the crank case changed the filter and have run it for 2800 miles, so it's due it's rinse phase of 3k miles with new oil and filter, then will change oil and filter again before the extended service interval is due.

Auto-Rx Plus Non-Toxic Sludge Remover and Cleaner for Engines and Transmissions

Will reset via VCDS for long service interval but will change oil/filter every 12 months, whether 12 months or long service interval VAG oil spec is 504/507.

My 3rd passat and use my own vag tool. I do approx 60,000kn/year or 5,000 per month. I replace oil, filter and sump plug at 7,500km. I normally drain 1/2 litre less than I put in at previous change. In the past I changed oil at 15,000 (once) then 10,000 (4-5 times). At 15,000 change I had added 3/4 litre twice, and at 10,000 i had added 1/2 - 1 litre each time. I conclude that the black soot on exhaust and rear bumper was a positive indicator that the engine was burning oil quicker as the oil worked and aged. Also small performance "jerks and hickups" seem to come with age of oil, and disappear with new oil. After opinions from chemists (BP in Australia) re oil and fuel, I now use BP Ultimate diesel exclusively (it has injector cleaner in Australia, unlike all other brands)and I achieve long distance economy as low as 4.5l/100km (4.8 using air con in summer), and mixed running average of 5.2l/km. I use Nulon (VW Spec 507.00) Oil, and use moly oil flush each change. I use Moly ms2 friction modifier (each 3rd change). I also us Moly PDF additive at 50km intervals, and will use the moly engine "shock" cleaner as engine ages. My first 2.0tdi had 225,000km and going great when i sold it, and I still pass it often....12 months later. My current 2007 2.0tdi had 51,000km when purchased and it now has 112,000km, and seems to be performing much the same as my previous vehicle, but I do wish it had leather trim!! Didnt mean to launch the "magna carta", but thought my detailed history may help. PS.....I initially put 3 1/2 litres of new oil and after filter cavity is filled I generally add another 300ml which fills it neatly.
