    Hi

I have a tdi passat est on a 52 plate it has been a great car but in the last few days it has seemed a bit slugish still has turbo power but not as good!!

On saturday idecided to give it a run and clean out !! so pused it and got to 5th gear and 3500 revs and just lost all power it went to limp mode .

pulled over switched off and back on again and all was ok (still lacking power but out of limp) drove home carfully using the gears early as not to strain the turbo it has no power in 6th gear at all !!

I have vag.com lead so pluged in and got

17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation
    P1557 - 35-00 - -

So i called my vw dealer who said MAF sensor for sure it will fix it no problem!!

so i bought one today £80 and fitted !!

After i fitted it seems to have more pull but after it was warm i went to the bypass and gave it some and back to limp mode it went

i came back did a scan and same code back !!

had a bit of a read on the net and found people had problems with turbo vanes !!

So i removed the vacum pipe from the top of the turbo and fitted a length of pipe to the top and sucked on it and the rod moved but it did sound very dry and squeaky so i added som wd-40 and worked it with sucking and releasing the vaccum and still spraying until it sounded smooth and not squeaking anymore!!

Ok now went for a drive and have taken it to a speed i would not like to post on here lol and no limp mode !!!! i let it cooll for a while added some more WD-40 and tryed again and still no limp

No do you think it is fixed is it worth me keep adding some wd-40 every few weeks or does it need the turbo coming off for a rebuild?

Do you all think this was the problem or am i just being lucky its not going into limp at the mo?

Does anyone know if the turbo can be opened up and looked at and maybe free off or is it sealed?

    Thanks shane

The vaines get clogged up with muck causing them to stick, I think you may have freed it up. To aviod it clogging up again every now and then you need to welly your car, this will blow all the crap out.
