I have an A6 Allroad 2.5TDI on a 55 plate 2005, the air suspension warning light keeps on flashing and does not allow the suspension to raise above level 1, if it does not flash/come on and you press for the next level it starts flashing and no movement - any ideas on what could be causing this?

    Cheers

Neil check around and do a search on this, on this forum.

It may be a problem with the compressor which could cost but we have a great guy here called "bagpipingandy" who has manufactured a small seal type kit that may be able to resolve the issues with your compressor IF thats the problem.

Do a search under his name and all the results will pop up for you

I hope that is the issues as it could be a quick easy and cheap fix for you..........fingers crossed

    Good luck

Hi Neil,I've got some questions to help us understand what could be up:what light is flashing? is it the yellow error light (car with up and down arrow in rev counter) or level 1-2 green light?is the car sitting nicely and level at level 1 or on the bump stops at any corner?Assuming it is not level and it is the error light flashing:This flashing means the car is not sitting level and so it is trying to lift and level itself, with the flashing error light it is trying to level itself, can you hear the compressor running/rumbling when it is flashing? it is situated under the car in front of the spare wheel well, it can usually be heard running?the compressor should be running when this light is flashing if it is not running this is the problem, if it is running it may just be tired and out of puff which we can fix ok, it will only run for 120 second and then give up ( the yellow error light comes on solid) but ignition off and on it will try again flashing and lifting, if it is running does the car move upwards? even a little?if you can answer some of the questions above or see if my description matches what you find hopefully we can get you up and running againbest regardsAndy

Hi Andy, the flashing light is the yellow error one as described in your piece. It could well be that the car sits on the stops at level one (hard ride) i have never heard the compressor, checked yesterday and it took 2mins 20 to raise from L1 - L2, 2 mins L2-L3 and 30 secs L3 - L4, normally the car drops to L1 today it has not. When i will the fuel tank the suspension raises. Turning off the ignition does not always clear the yellow warning light. Another point is that from time to time you can here air escaping in much the same way as a lorry or bus, also at altitude 1500 meters and above and in extreme cold the suspension invariably drops back to L1.
Hope this helps you to provide me with a diagnosis and a way of rectifying the fault. Regards Neil

Ok initial thoughts are it sounds like an airbag leak, the air bags do not leak when parked at level 3 or higher hence this is maybe why it didnt sink the other night,
things to try to help diagnose further:

park at level 3 or 4 overnight to see if it sinks? (if it does not sink this is good)

park at level 1 overnight: If it sinks from level 1 this is a leak definetely, we then need to find out which airbag is leaking

to confirm what corner is leaking park at level 1 in "jack mode" (press up and down arrow together and hold for 5 seconds) this dissables the system and will show any leaks by the leaking corner sinking the lowest,

the compressor is slow to lift also but we need to clarify/find the leak 1st before fixing that, (have kits to repair this!! :bagpipingandy | eBay)

the air hissing when parked is normal (its just the car adjusting to level, especially if you park and remove weight from the boot you will hear it dump air to lower, it Should hiss only for 3-5 secs), unless the car hisses all the time & sinks quickly then this may be the leak you hear!! ,

cold weather makes the air thinner and easier to leak too, so all pointing to a leak, park at level 1 in jack mode and see what corner sinks the lowest, & thats your leak, spray with soapy water to check for bubbles & confirm its the airbag leaking and if so it will need replaced

try the above steps to see what you find,

if the car is sitting on the bump stops yes it is hard to drive and the wheel will be up inside the wheel arch

    regards

    Andy

Thanks for the info, will try out and get back to you. Are the air bags expensive?

    Afternoon,

Can you pls give me a bit of advice on my 2001 allroad suspension based on the following issues:

    1) Air compressor is buzzing it head off

    2) The front end is on the floor and wont go up so cant drive it.

    3) The suspension warning light now stays on all the time

    4) Is anyone willing to fix it for beer tokens, would be nice and i will make the tea and pass the tools etc, I live just off junction 26 of the M1 Nottingham. If poss to fix would be nice if some one can accomadate as Im taking my old man away in the car this sunday.

    Many thanks

    Jamie
