Allroad Air Suspension Problems

Hi, I have an Audi Allroad 2004 and recently rebuilt the Air Compressor with Andy's Kit and also replaced both rear air springs with Arnott replacement. The fronts were replaced about 5 years ago.

I have Vagcom, and did all the tests and all good.

Everything works fine, suspension works fine and goes up and down 100%.
All components look good and are rust free and clean and nice looking, it has been a lightly used/garage 1 owner car before I bought it.

Only new problem is that about 1 month after replacing the rear air struts and rebuilt compressor, the car now sinks to the bottom on one of the rear sides if I don't drive it for a couple of days. In pumps right back up again quickly when I start it up again.

So with a rebuilt compressor and new air struts - what else could cause this ? Any tests I can do ?

Hi digger,

It’s an air leak somewhere, use soapy water on the airline connections, it’s common for the valve to leak in the rear shock, it’s where the black airline Goes into the shock absorber, soapy water all over it to see if bubbles form, if it is leaking it’s a simple fix just remove circling clean o-rings and refit

Thanks, will have a look in a few weeks and report back - I need to change the rear diff seals anyway so will be in the right area.

arnott front suspension bag alternatives?

my 2001 allroad has finally succumbed to sinking front suspension, used to able to maintain level 3, whereas if left at level 2 it would sink over night. now can't unless stopped and leaving running for sometime, get from level 1 to 2 and to 3 unless parked up. if travelling in level 3 and cornering briskly then air pressure loss at front also.

therefore i am thinking the bag has a leak and both fronts need replacing. compressor seems ok

arnott and anscher are over 370 per bang via eurocarparts.

so have been looking at cheaper alternatives

can anyone recommend a source or seller (ebay gamble?)

I’ve just been running the cheap Chinese ones on eBay £120 for 2 fronts, Perfectly acceptable quality, won’t last as long as originals but a lot cheaper and keep a spare on the garage for the inevitable

thanks, i can pick up arnott 1st gen for 440 for 2 from trade sellers it would appear - so the ebay route and cost saving seems appealing...

any particular sellers to make a beeline for or avoid?

I’ve seen A lot of issues now with arnotts too, it’s Chinese or audi dealer, I purchased mine over 3 years ago I don’t see them on eBay any more, but I paid £120 for 2 x fronts

Do you recommend buying with struts?
