    Hi,
I'm about to collect my new (well new for me it's an 07 plate) Audi A6 Avant 3.0 TDI SE Quattro today. I noted when i went out for the test drive the MMI didn't have amongst other things the nice graphic when reverse parking. Im guessing this means its in need of an MMI update. I know you can get the CDs from the dealer (part 4L0 998 961 - ordered) for the latest version (5570). I understand it's basically a case of doing each CD in turn to apply the updates to all the components. Mine has MMI High with parking sensors, heated seats, dual climate, air suspension, DAB radio, AMi, 6 disk changer, Bluetooth.

Are there any gotchas for doing this myself? I was planning on just sitting there with the engine running and working through each disk.

I understand that post update some things 'disappear' such as the battery meter and require VCDS to re-enable,

So basically if anyone has done an A6/C6 MMI update and had advice, please share! Also if anyone has VCDS and is local to Leicester or nearby and can 'turn on' the missing items post MMI update that would be great too.

Always nervous applying these things so any update advice appreciated (or local VCDS specialists!)

    thanks.

The graphic lines need VCDS and will only work if your parking module is factory and supports the lines.

No issues doing the update, have a search on here its been done many times before

Your instrument cluster menu may or may not disappear but yes you need VCDS to enable it again.

As for VCDS users, check the map in my signature and find someone and I will contact them on your behald as you don't have enough posts to PM.

I guess Sunnybard is probably the closest person to me (and it looks like they have a similar vehicle).

Maybe they already have the MMI disks! I've been told by the Leicester Audi people they are currently on back order :-(

Oh well. Won't have the car till tomorrow anyways!

    thanks for replying so promptly!

    Much appreciated.

I'll pm him now for you.

If you're in desperate need for them, you can get them on eBay (usually more than Audi!) - AUDI MMI HIGH Firmware update 3CDs "5570" A6, A8, Q7 | eBay

I just purchased the discs from eBay - £15 inc postage. Ordered them Sunday and they arrived today so pretty good service.

I'm about do my MMI upgrade but have a couple of quick questions (Although I'm going to search for the answers anyway)...how do I put the MMI into update mode and I know I need to have power and that can be either charger to charge points (?) or engine running but if the latter can I be driving? Seems a waste of petrol to sit on the driveway for an hour or more

Oh, one more question - if I somehow manage to muck it up do I get a working car with no MMI or do I get a close to 2-ton brick that needs some TLC from a mechanic to work again?

Edit: Hopefully I won't regret saying this but life is too short to worry about all the small details - upgrade in progress right now, will update with results later on :-)

I didn't do mine but I think you hold in setup + return then swupdate, something like that.

You can connect a battery charger to the points under the bonnet or sit with the engine idling.

The only risk is bricking your Bluetooth module

    Any progress inkblot?

So far so good, did all CDs but had no phone (had already seen mention of this in another thread) so currently running disc 2 for the 2nd time and sure enough it has an additional update which is in progress now albeit very slowly. I'm sure disc 1 took about 15 minutes, disc 2 about 5 and disc 3 about 10 but disc 2 2nd time around is at 82% after a good 40 minutes! No signs of errors, just very slow to upgrade although it is upgrading handyvorb2 from 0 to 1130 so I guess a big upgrade.

Update: Looking at the time since I said it's a work in progress about 90 minutes has past so disc 2 has probably been an hour so far...

Well disc 2 eventually finished and all systems rebooted without problem. Bluetooth is back and I have gained a 3d map view but have lost the battery meter and instrument cluster settings from MMI. I was expecting at least battery meter to be missing and had read about Instrument cluster being missing as well so not overly bothered as (hopefully) they can be put back on Saturday when it gets serviced although as it's not a main dealer it may be something I need to find a local VCDS owner for.

When you mention the missing stuff, are you talking about the instument cluster on the large screen or are you talking about the information that displays in the small window between the speedo and rev counter?

I want to update mine, but am not sure what I wont have working.
