A6 3.0Tdi Quattro Creaking rear suspension over speed humps

My A6 3.0tdi Quattro Le Mans has been driving me mad for about 8 weeks with a very annoying "rubber creaking" noise when ever the suspension loads or unloads. i.e over speed humps

The guys in the garage have had various parts of the suspension off, they have lubricated all the anti roll bar bushes but no luck.

However this morning they think they have found the problem, the shock absorber top mounts are split.

They are on order from Audi and should be here is 4 days so I will let you know the outcome soon.

All my shocks and rear top mounts were changed by previous owner in 2011, not quite sure why as don't think there's a known problem with them (unlike Merc E46's) but am surprised that the receipt shows a total of just £305 inc VAT and parts. Rears mounts were £90 for both inc VAT which is roughly what a pair of shock was.

Have changed these on my Jag and MX5 and it's quite easy...daresay Audi will quote 3hrs+ to do the job

The top mounts were changed however it didnt fix it, it did greatly reduce the overall noise.

They are going to remove the bump stops and take it for a drive today to see if that does anything!!!

I'd love to know why that would resolve the issue. I'd be REALLY surprised if you were hitting the bump stops, unless you were going very fast and then it wouldn't be a rubber creaking sound, it'd be more like a rubber bullet sound hitting the suspension.
Do you trust the garage?

I probably should have mentioned its on lowered eibach springs and koni fsd shocks, hence wanting to try the bump stop idea!
The mechanic is a mate of mine so he wont give me a bill until they fix it but it is very strange because the noise is happening on both side of the suspension.
The anti roll bar was disconnected and I took it for a drive or some speed humps and it was the same.
Im willing to try anything right now!

SORTED!!!! They removed the bump stops and the it no longer makes a sound!! Now need to see if koni to modded ones.

UPDATE. Trimmed about 5-7mm off the bottom of the bump stops and its completely cured!!!!
