I am hoping someone has wired a universal towbar relay in before and might have a record of the wiring colour/diagrams. I am doing a 13 pin, so I am interested in the reverse and fog lights wire colours and route for an Avant, 2009 face-lift with LED tail lights. Thanks.

The wires to the LEDs are low voltage (about 3v I think) so you cannot wire your socket into the wires to the lamps. You need to spend a fortune on a car specific towbar wiring kit and spend a day wiring it into the car electrics. Warning: don't close your tailgate while the canbus wiring is unplugged, you won't be able to open it again.

I have a LED bypass relay that has its own power for the trailer lights, so this shouldn't be a problem. I've identified all the wires I need except the colour of the reverse and fog lamps. I'll note not to close that boot lid though

Looking at the myriad wiring diagrams, it looks like: Left reversing blue/red, Right reversing black/green, Left fog green or green/red, Right fog green or green/blue
BUT on some versions the fog "bulb" is also a tail light, presumably the same leds running at a lower power for tail lamp and higher power for fog light.
