    Hi Guys,

Check this link out to the ticking noise my car has started doing.
Cams have been changed in the past by a previous owner and are still like new.
Engine timing been checked on VCDS and showing up within specified tolerances
I thought it was an exhaust gasket blowing somewhere as most noticeable from sides and underneath but can't find anything obvious.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gordon

Injector seal, copper washer on injector ,there is a drilling that comes out behind the exhaust manifolds that make the noise sound like a manifold blow.

Hi. Where abouts is the drilling? Should it be plugged? Have
you had a similar problem? Cheers.

No, the drilling should not be plugged ,it is behind the exhaust manifold,I suspect it is there to stop combustion gases being forced past the injector if/when the copper seal fails.
i have seen it afew times and have even seen exhaust manifolds replaced as it sounds like a manifold blow. If it is this you will have to remove the injectors and renew the copper seals and check/clean the head where the injectors fit/seat. you can just do the one seal if you can determine which one is blowing. from memory i think ther is also a Oring higher up the injector to stop oil loss.

Just a quick update, sure enough it was the rear injector on passenger side that was causing the ticking noise. The copper washer wasn't in the best condition and allowing combustion gas to pass by. Not having a spare i simply annealed it and refitted. The engine is quiet again with no ticking so a fairly straight forward fix, well apart from my back being in agony stooped over for so long. Anyhow all sorted now. Cheers mate!!
