    Hi,

noticed a disconcerting squeal coming from my engine this morning on the drive to work. It is just discernable from the cabin with the windows up and starts as you come to a halt, so off throttle. Sounds quite loud when you are stationary with no road noise but then, as you pull away, it disappears.

Any ideas what it might be? I'm guessing it's the auxillary/alternator belt.

I would more or less garrantee it'll be the alterator slipper pulley, mine does exactly the same and i've seen or should i say heard loads of others do it as well i think it's pretty common and not too expensive to do.

My cam belt is nearly due so i was going to get mine done then along with the water pump.

thanks Mick, I had the water pump and belts changed last year, but no idea if they changed the pulley. I've booked it in for them to take a look friday.

Forgot to update on this, garage found that this was a split diaphram on the oil breather unit. Had them flumoxed for a while as the squeal was intermittent and had to tell where it came from in the engine bay. All sorted and running much better.
