Seeing as my car has not got an oil dipstick at all, as its via MMI, I researched on the net.

Most of the infomation I could find is either for the petrol or 3.0 versions.

After playing around with a few oil dipsticks, what I have ended up doing is using the VW/Audi oil dipstick part 03L115611E.

The dipstick itself is to long for my engine (2.0TDI 143) so after my mate had used his measuring device on the tube etc and cross referenced it, we ended up triming the bottom, cutting the plastic measuring part of, so you are left with the upper and lower grey plastic on the dipstick. Its not 100% precise, but using the upper and lower plastic parts on the dipstick as minimum and maximum I can get an approx reading, (which also matches with his universal adjuster dipstick and the MMI reading).

Basically this means I now have a visual means other than relying on the MMI, it fits in place of the bung, and the engine cover still sits and clips in place.

I (think) there was a guide put on here somewhere shaping how to fit it - when I'm back on my laptop this afternoon I'll have a look.

Thanks Dieseldoos that's great to hear I can cut the dipstick down, would you happen to have the measurements you used?

Chris did you happen to find the guide by any chance?

    Thanks for the help
