Who's afraid of the big bad fuel filter change?

No, not me - any longer! Dreaded havng to do this every 2nd service on my 2002 Audi Allroad 2.5Tdi AKE Auto. This time I clamped off the hose from the fuel tank and the hose to the IP with two pairs of long nose grips (insulation tape wrapped round jaws to prevent crimping hoses). Then disconnected/replaced filter and bingo - car sarts first time AND KEEPS RUNNING!

SUGGEST THIS COURSE OF ACTION FOR CHANGING FUEL FILTER AND ALSO IP (only the second clamp requred). Hope this helps someone like me who flattens the battery every time trying to get the engine started again!

I just fill the filter up and turn her over, if she doesnt start after a few cranks then just pop the securing pin holding the hoses in and fill to the brim again, then continue turning her over till she starts, if the battery starts to fade I just hook her up to the tranny. all done in less than 3 mins. Good idea about clamping mind if you cant jump it.

Hi folks. Just thought I would input this. 2 Years down the line and I have just changed the fuel filter again. Same procedure - clamp the two hoses, fill to brim new filter with diesel, connect up and release clamps. Engine starts first time and continues running. DEFINITELY THE WAY TO DO THE JOB !

Another two years on - just changed the fuel filter. Started first time - not even a stutter. CLAMP THOSE TWO HOSES - WAY TO GO!

Yes definitely works! I just clamp the supply hose not the return. Then pour the fuel out of the old filter into a measuring cylinder out of the OUTLET port so no dirt comes out. Then after checking for dirt and water pour into the new filter. Car stars first go, miss-fires a bit then runs fine.

Bluezie - a week before the fuel filter change I clamped and removed just the inlet hose to replace the N75 valve behind it. When all done, I too had a slight misfire! I would advise everyone to clamp both hoses to be safe.
Also, I am not sure it is a good idea to re-use the fuel in the old filter. I thought its main job was to trap water - might be wrong here.
..and this is coming from a Scotsman!
