Who's afraid of the big bad fuel filter change?

That's why I use a measuring cylinder to decant the fuel, and fill the new filter through the thermo valve hole so the 'old' fuel gets filtered before entering the pump. In all the years of servicing diesel engines, I've never had one drip of water come out of the filters, even from the old type that have a water drain valve at the bottom. I must be lucky with fuel quality, and if any water has got in, it must be still in the bottom of the fuel tank.

Just successfully changed the fuel filter again. This time I used a small "artist" paintbrush to lightly cover the seal for the valve and also lightly coated the two tubes on the filter for the hoses. Both valve and hoses slipped on very easily. This avoids possibility of crimping the seal when pressing on the valve. Hope this update helps someone.
