Hi Folks. We recently replaced the VW CD/Radio on this vehicle with an Alpine unit. Halfords fitted it and gave us two options to power it.
1 Without the ignition turned on, and the key out.
2 With ignition turned on with the engine not running...We opted for 1. but this flattened the battery after a couple of days if the vehicle was not run.
We had it changed to 2 .My daughter sat with the ignition turned on listening to the radio.After 5 minuets or so the power cut off and the tripometer and clock zeroed themselves. She could not start the car. I arrived some 10 mins later and the car started.
My question is.. Is there a fuse available that will allow us to use the radio that will not cause the"electrical problem" but will work without the ignition turned on, and will electrically isolate the radio when the key is removed. Halfords said that the isolation fascility caused by the removal of the ignition key does not work on non VW radios. Thankyou.
