MOT Test in Northern Ireland

My daughter is working in Belfast for a year and took her car over. It is due for an MOT Test, and has it booked into one of the specialist centres that they have over there. Silly question, but as they have their own version of the DVLA over there (DVANI), is an MOT issued over there legal back on the mainland? Is it issued on the same sort of printer layout as those over here now, and does it show up when taxing or insuring a car online? Thanks.

Yes the MOT is the same, albeit done in a specific MOT centre.

Legal in NI and the Mainland, although she will get a MOT disc which she will need to display on the left hand side of her windscreen - its law and you can be fined if this isn't displayed. Its the same size as the tax disc so a normal tax disc holder will do rightly.

It's all electronic too, so will show that the car is MOT'd on insurance and taxing.

For example if my A6 was purchased by an owner in London and it had 1 year MOT, it still would have the MOT until 1 year later and the new owner would get the renewal as normal.

By the way, we have the strictest MOT in the UK and they will fail the car on every detail so make sure she takes it somewhere reputable for the MOT inspection and any work that needs doing.
