I'm going to book my car in for transmission oil change tomorrow. My car is on 131k now, previously I had the oil and filter changed at around 75k. I bought a kit from Bristol Transmissions, but I've got a feeling they sent me ZF Lifeguard 6 oil.

After reading through this thread, I've got a feeling it should had ZF Lifeguard 8.

Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: 09L-927-760.lbl
    Part No SW: 4F2 910 156 Q HW: 09L 927 156 C
    Component: AG6 09L 3,0 TDI RdW 0070
    Revision: --H05--- Serial number: 4613234
    Coding: 0000001
    Shop #: WSC 02325 785 00200
    VCID: 3365EB9652EDD7DA63-8066

    No fault code found.

So according to TPI 2007190/13 linked to by gupsterg, I should use:

    G 060162 A? ATF (green) = ZF LifeGuard 8 (From March 2008 production) Link:- G-060-162 - Synthetic Oil Euro

I then googled "ZF 6HP19A" and the first link that comes up is this catalogue... https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...UcBr9_gYRh17L-

    ...which says ZF Lifeguard 6+.

But the assembly document on ZF's website says Lifeguard 8 (click on the PDF under Assembly Information)... WebCat

I spoke to Automatic Gearboxes Repairs | Reconditioned Auto Gearbox Specialists | Manchester | Derby today who said they can do a complete flush with genuine oil, for £380+VAT. I'm going to speak to them tomorrow and try and get a more in depth explanation about what they do; whether they will do the torque sequence etc.

Think you will find Lifeguard 6 is for the 6 speeders ie yours.Lifeguard 8 is for the 8 speeders but think can be used in the 6 speeders but as its quite a bit more expensive why would you?
Might be worth a message to ZF themselves?
Bristol transmissions are good and if they have sent you Lg6 I would be happy with that.

Lifeguard 6 is correct. Page two of the zf document says lifeguard 6. I changed mine and used oil from ebay, far cheaper and exactly the same.

Thanks. It is probably fine (I've done over 50k with this oil so nothing catastrophic has happened), but I just edited my post above to show the current document from the ZF website, which says Lifeguard 8 for this gearbox too.

I think if you are doing a complete flush you can replace it with 8+ but I could only do a filter and oil change which doesn’t get all the oil out, you can’t mix them together. So stick with 6.

Think this is reasonably common as the ZF specialist in Glasgow rebuilds hundreds each year for other companies as well as themselves.

[QUOTE=gianton;1013300]Anyone else found a cheaper alternative for the transfer oil? I found only the Ravenol TF-0870 but does not meet the same Audi number.

RAVENOL Transfer Fluid TF-0870 - Ravenol

That is because it is for something totally different.

Have you been on the Ravenol site and used the search facility for finding the right oil for your car? I have been looking for the right fluids for my 07 ASB engine 233hp allroad A6 C6 4F, and ended up on their site after seriously searching everywhere and finding hundreds of threads with hundreds of people affirming with equal confidence that what they were doing was right and that anyone reading their posting that didn't already know that was slightly dim. Well there were only a few like that, many others genuinely trying to help. But no threads that ended with a conclusive list to put us out of our audi misery.

Anyhow using the Ravenol direct site and clicking the 'which oil' tab, I received a list of all components in my car requiring lubricants plus brake/clutch circuits, steering, and coolant. The references for all fluids that I know from audi are coherent - the steering, coolant, autobox (they list 8HP for my 6HP19A as do audi (I was there this morning!)) and they suggest VSG 75W-90 for front and rear diffs and SLS 75W-140 for the transfer box. Now I don't know these oils, but the fact that they have one for both diffs (as do audi) and another for the transfer box (as do audi) plus the fact that all other suggestions correspond perfectly makes me think that they know their stuff... and the price... well the price is right!

I will be placing an order unless anyone has tells me otherwise...?

    Cheers,
    Tom.

P.S. come on who is going to be number 300...?
