    i have a new vcds cable and im looking to do a few basic changes..(welcome home lights,alarm horn beep)ive got into right file ticked boxes pressed exit new code has entered into long code box pressed "do it" it then comes up with 3 options which im sorry i didnt note exactly but along lines of 1 vcds change to 123/etc 2 cancel and one other. it gives option yes or no. i was too scared to press yes incase is messes everything up! all things ive read says press do it and its done???? anyone else had this or knows what i mean?

    From that little snippet you gave sounds like you are re-coding a module that has not been re-coded before. Nothing to worry about, but VCDS needs to send a 'Dealership Workshop Tool' number to the module being re-coded. Normally, if it finds this data already in a module - it sends it back in the background. This info is just so [theoretically] workshops can see which workshop was the last to re-code or adapt a module in the car.

    So if VCDS sees all zeros in the Workshop codes it will suggest 1234 etc. It doesn't matter a jot to the coding what numbers are there - as long as they are non-zero.

    If you want to make it look plausible; place '210' as the ZV/Importer, '00780' as the code (WSC) and anything you like for the Equipment Number. If your local dealer has ever carried out a service; their details will be stored in the Instrument Cluster at address 17 - and you see the info you require on either the module front screen or just before you do a re-code.

    the car is an a3 2.0tdi sport 2004..i think i understand your answer....i will re do it and post exactlly what is says before i do it....thanks for replies so far..
