Hi folks having alot of trouble with the car just lately the alternator packed up, front and rear brakes needed changing and i had to replace the full reg plate lamp unit including lamps because of horrible screws lol and now the bloody gearbox sounds like its about to blow!!

Now my question is what gearbox will fit mine (AVB 100bhp engine) as getting hold of the correct box is a nightmare . Is there any other differences between boxes other than ratios?

    many thanks for any help

Right im getting rather confused now with all these different gearbox codes! Mine says GBR on the sticker in the boot but another audi a4 with same engine code has GFL gearbox code?? Found a VW passat with the same engine code but that has a EEN gearbox code :S

Surely if the engine code is the same the gearbox should also be the same and should fit mine??

Please someone shed some light as its giving me a headache lol

if the drive shaft flanges are the same and the electrical connections are identical, then it will probably fit. the final drive ratios may be different, but it shouldn't be much if the box is out of an identical car.
the problem is, vag like to make a slight change to something and give it a new code. look at how many engines there are. crasher posted them all once, i think there was about a thousand all together. some are even not actually different; its only when you strip them down and find different oil pumps, or bigger con rod bolts.
