    Hi,

how long does it take fellow 2.0 TDI owners to reach half way on the temp gauge. Mine is a bit slow to budge much above two bars,I know it is cold outside but surely it should get there after a few miles off driving?

    Cheers
    John

mine takes a very long time, rarely gets to 90 unless doing motorway speeds, even goes back down when I come off, even after a 50 mile trip.
Was thinking about taking it back to the garage since in about 3000 miles the start stop has also never worked so wondering if the engine isn't getting to temp...

One of the biggest problems with diesel engines is that they are far more thermally efficient than the petrol cousins and therefore they take an age to heat up (that is why there is an auxiliary heater for when the weather is cold otherwise the interior of the car would remain cold and defrosting the windscreen would take an age. Stop/Start will also not operate if the heater is still warming the interior of the car as it will have been on many days recently.

I hear all what is being said about cold weather but your car should reach full temp (water around the engine block) even when the temp outside is very low. I now have a 3.0 tdi that warms up in about 3 or 4 miles. I also have an a4 1.9 tdi. This always reached full temp but one winter this stopped and the gauge would only go between 60 and 75 degrees c. I bit the bullet and had a new thermostat fitted. This rectified the problem
bottom line is, if you are not getting to normal temp, regardless of ambient temp, you have a faulty thermostat

My C6 takes ages to warm up especially in this coder weather, also a 2.0 TDI. I would say about 6 miles of city center driving in the morning for it to get any heat in it at all.

On my 20 mile, 40 minute stop start journey to work in a morning the temperature doesn't reach 90 degrees on my C7 2.0 TDI. I was beginning to wonder if there was something wrong.

On the subject of Stop/Start, there have been a number of threads on this in this forum. The only rational conclusion I have come to is to agree that the auxillary heater is to blame. If I turn off the aircon unit then the stop/start works a treat, but I am left to shiver obviously. Over the summer, very different behaviour, Stop/Start worked nearly all the time.

my previous 2 cars, VW's, were also 2.0 TDI, and did take a while to heat, but it did eventually get there after a few Miles, the Audi doesn't or if it does it goes back down again, which I can't recall seeing in the previous cars. I also suspected the Thermostat since I had a faulty one a number of years ago, I guess I should get it booked in...particularly as even with all the requirements for the start stop, after 3000+ miles I'm sure it should have kicked in at some point )

Is the Aux heater dependent on the Air Con? I usually leave the Air Con off unless its hot out or I need to defrost/mist. The car starts getting warm after 4 min, I assumed that's how long it took to get the Aux heater warm? I only have standard Dual Air Con, I have not tried with it turned on it see if it warms quicker.

I am amazed at how quickly the auxiliary heater clears quite thick ice from the windscreen and windows. I can have ⅛" ice on the windscreen, and the car cold soaked, and it will clear in about three minutes.

ooo well in that case I'll have to try turning the air con back on to see if it heats faster, will have to wait till next week though, In Ireland with a Ford Focus hire car this week, still makes you glad of what you have

Ca't say I notice any difference in having the AC on or off as to the working of the stop/start when the car is cold and therefore needs heating or there is the need to charge the battery or support high electrical drain items it does not activate. Also having the AC on does not in itself make the car cold all that does is to chill the incoming air (which when it is cold outside is irrelevant as it is already cold and I believe the AC compressor is declutched when the air temp is below 5c) and then the air is heated by the heater and regulated to the temps selected on the control panel. I do however agree with all of the other posts here that my C7 2.0TDi does seem to take longer than my previous C6 2.0 TDie engine to reach its operating temperature
