Hi, our 2009 Golf 6 went to limp home today, flashing glow plug mode. No CEL and the flashing glow plug goes away after a cooling off and a re-start. So armed with VCDS we drive for 10 minutes and the limp home happens again. VCDS reported this (the 2 frequency corresponds so this is a new today fault)

So I logged the fuel pressures for a a short journey to verfiy. To me the specified and actual look to be tracking albeit the actual is a little laggy but then it is a mechanical control system in there somewhere. The max error I see using the log file and excel is about 50bar. So my question is - should the values track a LOT closer than you see in the attachment? Can you see anything wrong? What other channels should I be logging? This is in limp home mode flashing glow plug light;

I think I can guess the answer to this but now there is a audible from inside the car whirring noise, lift the bonnect and the noise is from the left side rear of the engine.
Plan to pull the fuel filter, look for particles to give the me the next step.
I understand the HPFP is at the front left of the engine but is there another pump pre filter buried at the bulkhead?
