Unclip top steering column cover by pushing up from the side. A plastic lever helps prevent damage. You will then see two torx screws, one each side. You have to turn steering wheel 180 degrees to get to each screw. Underside of bottom cover has another screw in hole in middle. Remove bottom cover copletely. Now you can disconnect the battery. Disconnect the battery with the ignition stil on, this keeps the steering lock in the unlocked position which may help later. Disconnect the electrical connections and pull the wiring awa from the column. Remove cover from steerining column/ rack (behind pedals and includes footrest) Remove steering rack pinion bolt and slide column up. Remove column bolts x4 and lower gently until you can unplug connector on steering lock. Now the whole thing will lift out. Getting steering lock off column is the next bit of fun. This is not a ten minute diy job. You will need a couple of hours at least for a first time attempt.

Martin, Thanks a million, very good detailed responce. I only went so far today and got worried about the airbag going off so put it back together. I'll give it a go later in the week and report back.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Martin & V6Jules

Did this job today without a problem thanks to your posts and advice guys. Thanks a million for posting this advice in the first place and then answering my questions. I cut a small nick in the green rubber cover on both microswitches to get in a bit of wd40 and work the switches in and out. I also glued a bit of plastic onto the little pusher lever that contacts the unlocked microswitch. I know this is not a permanent fix but if I got another year or so I would be happy. If it happens again I might try get a couple of switches and replace. (Id have to get someone else to do the soldering as I would'nt chance it)

    Thanks again

WD40 is not contact cleaner. It's an oil-based solvent. Use either Servisol or Maplins own brand switch cleaner N62AN

Anybody on here ever had a problem once the microswitches have been changed over. When i first replaced my unit and tried to start car it was turning over but just came up with same fault. Now i cant even get the ignition to come on. However if i press the lower microswitch on the circuit board when its connected the car makes a horrible clicking noise etc.

Can anybody advise as to why ive lost ignition totally?
