I am in need of advice!!
I am chaning jobs and lokoing to buy my leased Audi A3 SPORTBACK 2.0 TDI 140 SE. It has 115k miles on the clock, mainly mortorway miles and is just 3 years old. Its been regulary serviced at an Audi dealer and generally anything that has needed doing has been down.
I love the car and would like to think i could run it up to 250k miles with just maintanence costs. Am i being optimistic??

I am also looking into getting a warranty although i understand this will most not likely cover wear and tear - have quotes from warranty direct and need to call Audi.

The lease company want £8200, i thought this was slightly high with thr milage - what would a garage likely pay for the car?

    Look forward to some advice!!

    Thanks

Sounds like the ideal situation if you can get it at the right price, what with you knowing the full history & the fact it's done mainly motorway miles. Have you priced checked similar age/mileage A3's on Autotrader/Glass's Guide/Parkers for guide price?

If it's been serviced at the same dealership since new, you'll also be rewarded for it if anything goes wrong in future that you want goodwill payment from Audi towards.

Be wary on independent warranties, there's a thread on the forum where people described some bad experiences (although that was more or less completely aimed at Warranty-Wise). I'd recommend checking internet reviews before paying out for an independent warranty.

i would say its about on the money with that mileage. maybe see what they say to 7.5k and go to 7,750. but, as brycie says, ideal car if you have done every mile in it and know how its been treated. you could buy a lower mileage one for more money and find its been abused or pranged.

Warranty direct I believe is a good warranty. Recommended by Honest John and other forum members have said that it is good - no problems with claims. I have one of the poor independent warranties which is just criminal (eg. despite saying that it does cover wear and tear - they cop out on due to age of parts) and warranty direct is the opposite to this from what other members have said. This is backed up by what they say on their website:
Car Warranty & Extended Warranty Specialists - Warranty Direct Ltd
Audi car warranty - Warranty Direct Ltd
From speaking to someone at VW, I believe that the manufacturer warranties are also decent - although you should double check against the questions listed in my above link.

DO NOT and I mean DO NOT purchase an aftermarket warranty.

Total waste of money as I well and truly found out - Warranty Wise messed be about for 4 long months only to be told the fault wasn't sudden engine failure - Big end bearing failure which IS sudden engine failure as it just stopped on night.

You wont get an Audi warranty at that mileage but the money you spend on the A/Market one, just set money aside instead in one of those 'one-use' money jars.

I think you may be right to just put money aside. I guess these warranties could mount up to circa £600 a year and if they won't cover everything, that's money down the pan!!
I will maybe leave the warranty. I expect that as the car is only just 3 years old and in super condition and well serviced I should hope not to expect a great deal to go wrong.
I am going to be cheeky and book it into the Audi garage before I leave the company this month to have a final check, so if any work needs doing the lease company will pay. I do think it sounds like a wheel bearing could be going, maybe not an expensive job? Then I will then buy it at the end of the month!
I am concerned about the clutch going as I understand that is expensive.

Really appreciate the advice. Thank you.

Put your money aside for a rainy day!
I paid for two years extra warranty after the VW one ran out and when I went to claim on my air conditioning compressor which failed, they did not want to know. They said it was fair wear and tear and wouldn't offer anything towards the cost to fix it.
The compressor failed after 66,000 miles, or 3 1/2 years of my ownership.
Cost me over £800 to fix. I looked through teh policy with Warranty Holdings and found absolutely nothing about Air Conditioning Compressor not being covered.
I contested this with them and they just weren''t interested - I gave up in the end vowing never ever to pay for additional warranty again....and haven't to this day and have saved myself a packet!

i would ensure the clutch does fail then and get replaced before the month is out
