Help !!!! I have purchased a 2001 Audi A6 Avant. I had 1 fully working remote key fob and 1 that required new batteries. I have replaced the batteries and went through the sync sequence which then allows that new key fob to work, but the other one that I used in the ignition for synchronisation gets wiped and doesn't work. It seams that I can only have one working remote key fob at a time. Any one with any ideas please???? I am really pulling my hair out ( what little hair I have )

    Many thanks,

    Matt

    hello

ok, what is it you are trying to sync the key with? the alarm or the immobiliser?

had the key previously started the car prior to the batteries failing?

Within 5 seconds press unlock button on first key once.

    Wait 5 seconds.
Press unlock button once to confirm programming.
    Vehicle unlocks.
Switch off ingnition Remove key. Remote now programmed test it works.
To program remaining key into position 2 .
Switch on ignition use key not fitted with remote.
Manualy lock drivers door use second remote key.
Within 5 seconds press unlock button at one second intervals as follows.
    Twice for second remote.
    Wait for 5 seconds .

    Alan (Redrobo0)

Just re-programmed the spare key for our 2003 A6 Avant which needed a new battery. It worked perfectly and only took a couple of minutes.

    Many thanks.

A little confussion here. Have the same problem of 2nd (original spare key) key not working remotely, manually unlock and ingnition works, battery is new.

    - what is a key not fitted with remote control?

    a) 2nd remote key that is not working and needs to be programmed?
    b) half part of the 2nd remote key with blade and immobiliser (key splitted in 2 parts and remote part with buttons taken away)?
    c) 3rd key (apart from 2 that needs to be matched) that is not fitted with remote control part?

    - is that true that I need to manually lock driver's side door with the working first key (the one that is remotely working and does not need to be programmed)?

    - do the key needs physically stay in the door lock while I am pressing the unlock button on the key?

    - the main confussion goes here, from Audi A4 (8D) Central Locking - Ross-Tech Wiki manual, you need to lock the driver's side door with the 2nd (new or not working) key not the first key as described here?

I have tried the method described in the Ross-Tech manual with no success - should I try again by this method? If this will not work, the last possible reason I could think is that the car's central locking system is not seeing the 2nd key and need to be matched as per this manual Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Remote Control Matching Info
