I have an A8 3.7 V8 2004 with the MMI 2G and the sat nav has been working perfectly well until yesterday, half way down the motorway it decided to stop showing the map. Now when i start the car it says check navigation cd, but the disc will not eject for me to then start from scratch and reinsert.
The red lights flash but no disc ejects! Is it a new dvd player? if how much should i pay? Is it repairable? Thanks for any help.

have you tried resetting your mmi - hold setup + central control knob + upper right inner key

you might need your dvd drive unlocked to get the disc out then you could try a lens cleaner or a new disc.

Yes i have reset the MMI already but no joy. Is unlocking the dvd drive something I could do or is it a dealer job? Audi have quoted £140 just to look at it to do a diagnostic!!

A forum member can do this for you.

Look VCDS - Users Locations and VWAF User Location Map - VCDS - Google Maps

If you need anyones attention brought to this thread I can PM them on your behalf.

I have moved this to the A8 section.

once you get the disc out, run a lens cleaner through it and also clean the disc.

Apologies for hijacking the thread but I thought it would be appropriate to elaborate on a similar problem I have been experiencing. I too had DVD errors on my MMI navigation but was able to remove the disk for cleaning. I tried to clean the DVD with a cleaning disk but it wouldn't play as it did not recognise the disk as a 'navigation disk' so I got the following error: 'Insert Navigation Disk'. I have tried a new disk and am in the strange position of being able to enter addresses in the Navigation screen and it even calculates the route but all I get on the map screen is a black blank screen. I have 2 DVDs both have the same error. Re-setting MMI makes no difference and a VAGCOM test did not throw up an errors. An Audi dealer has quoted something ridiculous like £1200 for a replacement DVD drive but that's way too much and I'm not even sure if that's the problem.

I hope OP has more luck than me, but does anyone have any ideas what might be going on? What type of DVD cleaner do you recommend as I can't get the one I have to even play?

    Thanks.

Are you using a genuine Audi disc or a copy?

Good question. Initially was running a copy which the person who upgraded my MMI gave me about 2 years go. It's worked faultlessly until now. However, even when I use the original (but old) disk I get the same blank screen on the map page.
