    Hi,
I am new to this forum so please bear with me.
I have a Passat S reg ( Oct 1998) which has been sitting unused for a while.Anyway I discovered a pool of water in the rear passenger footwell.
On further investigation after partly pulling up the carpet in the front passenger
side I discovered my Comfort control module saturated, and completely knackered. I have removed this from the car to assess the cables, they look to be in a sorry state aswell -rusted, some having come out of their terminals in the end plug. The car has always been reliable and I was going to sell it untill this happened. Now I don't know what to do.
If I get a replacement module then the cables will need fixing aswell - also will the new module need programming and how is this done. I can see a nightmare looming
Considering the age of the car and what It might have been worth if all was working probably £800 - £1000 . Should I cut my loses and sell it for spares/repair taking into account how much time and expense I would incur to get it fixed. The other problem is I can not open the fuel cap ( being electronic).
The engine is fine and has 100654 on clock. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

    Brian

Unfortunately, it's a common problem. I'd repair the wiring first, and then retest the existing CCM. Electronics aren't that sensitive to clean water, as long as you thoroughly dry the citcuits.
I once worked at a computer reseller yonks ago that took part-exchanges, we used to literally wash them (incli. keyboards and mice but not HDDs) in a big sink and leave them a fortnight to dry in a drying room

    Hi,
Thanks for response. I have checked the CCM circuit board and it is truly knackered. As you say the next thing is to tackle the wiring - but three wires have come adrift from one of the plugs-assuming I can take the plugs apart to clean them I need a diagram to help me with putting the loose wires back into the correct position . If anyone has any experience of fitting a replacement Comfort control module - I would be very grateful.

    Cheers
    Brian
