Hi, just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this. Started the car yesterday and got several brake warning lights flashing at me also the led in the park brake switch was flashing and the park brake would not release, even with the seat belt on. Scanned with vcds and this was reported from the park brake module:-

Got to take it to the menders on Wednesday so had to remove the Left park brake motor and wind the drive back on the caliper so I can move the car. I've got the car booked in for another issue but this will have to take priority.

Quite possible moisture/oxide in the connector behind the calliper in question. It happened to mine ...

Thanks snapdragon, that connector was the first thing I checked and it looked as clean as a whistle. As I said I had to back-off the caliper after taking the motor off, do you happen to know if this needs resetting back to the original position or does the motor automatically adjust itself?

I don't know, I would think it is automatic, but you need to clear the codes that trigger the big warning icon before it works properly again in my (single incident) experience.

Thanks again, thats exactly what my thoughts are. I've taken it to a local audi/vw independant tech this morning as it has a wierd engine overheat problem that started a few days before. (all seems to happen at the same time!!) I think that it's a sensor rather than a genuine o/heat as I get the warning on a cold engine and the temp gauge is all over the place. When driving if the temp gauge gets to about 3/4 the engine looses all power for 10-20 seconds then picks up again and the temp returns to normal for a short while. This has caused a lot of head scratching. I'll update when I find out what the cause is.

Seems like its a new rear caliper for the brake problem and egr cooler for overheat required.

I'm having a Park Brake issue in my D3. get the usual alert appear on the center of the dashboard only after a few minutes when turning on and just remains on the dashboard. I've also noticed when engaging the park brake the red dash light flashes several times then stays on as it usually would (disappears when i turn off the handbrake but the center of the dash alert remains). and another thing i noticed was when engaging the park brake you can hear one engaging then the other not sure if its a damaged motor or an issue with the pads im sure they used to be in sync at one point. Any help appreciated. tried to look things up using a VAG diagnosis but couldnt figure out which section i had to go in so just cleared everything i could find.

I have been getting the same parking brake warning light.

(this is a picture I found on the net. Not mine but same light)
    1-27-10001.jpg

It's only happened 3 times since december. I find it goes away if you double flick the brake up then down once to release.

    What could be causing this?

ok, not too sure i got a feeling my park brake motor may be hanging off slightly possibly on a couple threads. because you can still hear the motor just takes a little longer to engage compared to the other side.
mine looks similar to that picture 'A8Starr' put up except don't say 'malfunction' it just says 'park brake' so im guessing mine may not be as much of an issue yet!

Try parking somewhere level and don't engage EPB, just shift to P, get out and lock car, it should then self-test and recalibrate. You should hear it whirring for a few minutes.
