OEM LED number plate light fitted to A6 .. Success!

Hey Chris, nice mod mate.

I did this myself some time ago with Leds with a built in resistor for not a lot of money and also with no errors. They make a big difference.

Will give those suggestions a go, cheers guys. That must've been frustrating Chris, you thought you were just going out to get a couple of snaps & realise theyr'e not aligned correctly, I bet a few choice words were uttered

. One of them trial & error jobs I guess, you won't know if it's right til you can see the direction of the lightbeam.

Just one of those things really!

I noticed that the a3's plate is mounted closer to the light so it's definitely the positioning of the plate itself which is crucial to get a good result.

I might just remove the holder altogether and just stick the plate on but luckily number plate stickers are only £1 for 10 so not bad.

I tried that before the mod, despite the option being in VCDS it does nothing on MY09 cars onwards (certainly not on our MY11's) and you still get the bulb out warnings on the DIS / maxidot.

It takes very little OHMS to fool the bulb check on these lamps.
150-160 OHM 2 WATT resistor piggybacked on each side was enough for me which is around a 1.2W load on each side.
