Hi I have a 3.0tdi with engine code CCWA. In VCDS I am able to select and begin the process to regenerate the EGR cooler (i've been getting P401 EGR insufficient flow). The process starts, revs rise to 2k for a while and then steadily rise to 3.5k accompanied by a smell that I am associating with carbon getting hot. Then it stops suddenly stating 'Aborted, safety reasons'.

I'm desperately trying to avoid changing the EGR cooler, but have a niggly feeling i might have to bite the bullet. Has anyone done the EGR Cooler regeneration successfully? I'm doing it on a hot engine, which i presume is correct. If anyone knows differently please let me know. There's little i can find in the way of instructions and procedures for VCDS functions like this!

    Thanks!

The instructions for doing a EGR regen would be found in the factory repair information which you can access at the erWin website for your car. I believe that the P401 means you have a carbon build up and you have restriction which most likely will have to be cleared by taking things apart and cleaning them. here is a link to a list of the erWin web sites: Official Factory Repair Information - Ross-Tech Wiki

    Hi Bruce,
Ive looked on erWin quite a bit actually and can't find anything on EGR regen. Do you know where it would be on that site?
    thanks!

Sorry for posting on this old thread, but is there a login code for EGR Cooler Regeneration on VCDS? I have tried it with and without the login code for doing the DPF without any luck. I'm trying to run it on a CCWA Q5, and it never starts. It instructs me to press the brake, then the accelerator, but it never revs the engine as it does for the DPF regen.

    thanks,

    Jim
