It's probably a turbo act uator fault. Generic P codes are not much use. You could do with a proper code read. Turbo actuator failure on these engines is fairly common.

Yes, the actuator diaphragm on my 58 reg tdi 140 Highline estate failed within a couple of months of buying the car. Fortunately from a VW Dealer, so cost was fully covered by the VW Warranty you get when buying a dealer approved vehicle. Car had only done a little over 40k mls!

I had the same on my 58 plate 170 Tdi. Not impressed but once fixed i was getting better mpg etc. Or so the MFD said. Why oh why the actuator can't be replaced with out the need for the whole unit i don't know.

I read some info, (don't know whether it was true) that said the adjustment of the actuator has to be set up to the turbo on an air flow rig when new or after a refurb, otherwise you risk over/under boost. Sounds like overkill to me, but that was the explanation for why you can't just change the actuator.

All of the "how to" guides to guide you through a turbo strip and clean stress that you must not change the length of the adjuster.

The actuator can be bought as a repair kit and as long as the instructions available on erWin are followed explicitly then it does not have to be set up on a flow bench.
