    Hey all
just wanted some advice if possible, I have bin looking into getting an A4 and seen a 53 plate 1.8t for sale that I like, but not sure as it has 134,000 miles on, is it worth getting or looking for one with less miles on?

    Cheers for any help

    Chaddy

try and verify mileage with service history and mots so know its been well maintained. as long as then drives as it should 134k is nothing and should give you plenty of motoring still. have the same car, recommended it.
    1.8T, votex bodykit, 18" RS4's, tinted windows.
scouser, but car was bought and paid for.

The 1.8t is a tough and long lasting engine but has one potential Achilles heal that you most definitely should be aware of and prepare for if you make the purchase.

There is a potential issue with oil sludging which has its' roots in many causes but can result in the oil pickup pipe in the sump becoming blocked at the mesh screen. When this happens, it can result in oil starvation higher up the engine and to the turbo with rapid and catastrophic results.

This is not to alarm you as there are preventative maintenance steps that can be taken and should be taken seriously. I have a 1.8t and am perfectly happy with it, being aware of the issue and having adhered to those steps.

I recommend strongly that you research 'oil sludging 1.8t' and 'oil light' searches on this forum and the wider web and then come back with any questions. There is plenty of info available out there.
