Just come home from the ya old school run, parked on an incline out side my manor and what happens the coolant light comes on " check coolant "....

Got back in the car 5 mins later no warning.... Just to ask what coolant should I be using ...ie from Halfords....or is this stuff you can only get from Audi

If it's just slightly low (and not coming on because of the slope - park flat and let it get completely cold to check) you can top up with water (yes, it dilutes the coolant slightly, but not enough once in a while to cause a real issue - use demin water if you're a purist and of course if it keep happening check for leaks / get a rad pressure test) or any CE approved coolant from Halfords etc. Audi branded is just that, branded, and a damn sight more expensive too.

Raf.. Cannot see any leakage.... no trace on the garage or outside where the vehicle was parked....I havnt been able to check the fluids or have the bonnet up for a few weeks...Backs been screwed...

Probably get some coolant and some demin water and top up...after all the MOT is to morrow and the service is in 90 days so if the warning light comes on again then I'll get the garage to deal when its serviced

Comma XStream G40 coolant is available at Halfords, is G12++ and is £25 / 5 litres. Similar deal available at Amazon, and others.

Camskilll Tyres have it for £18, though I'm not sure what postage is there.

    Hi,

Coolant type will be printer on header tank, G12 or G12+. Best price I found was from GFS http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3006096206...84.m1423.l2649

Word of advice, never mix coolant types, even the ones that claim to be universal as they can react and cause issues. Using distilled water is supposed to be a good idea, cheapest place at present is Robert Dyas.

Good idea to get to the bottom of why the warning is going off. Is coolant being lost or the sensor playing up?

    Hope this helps.

    Andy

Have no I idea at the moment... Hit the check facility in the car yesterday whilst out...everything seemed ok....and it only came on when I returned from the school run....think it might be a gremlin in the system... Switched the car off for 5 mins and restarted but didnt get the coolant warning light again.... need to investigate but also need to have some stuff as have none here...

Not to worry the local VW dealers down the road has got some in stock....so its just a 10 minute walk 4 me

Checked out the fluid levels before I had to collect my daughter from school... they are just above the min level so that would explain why the sensor went off this morning

Anyway just been to the local Vw dealers....bloody nice guys... do besides the G12 ++ also got some P.S fluid...always helps to have some kocking about the place

Just wait relax and top ups laters of early am..... need to make sure the cars ready for 10.05am MOT's tomorrow
