Rear parking sensors not working

Hi. I’ve got a b6 Passat and I have the same issue. When putting the car into reverse you hear the long beep as if the parking sensors where working, but when reversing up to something the sensor don’t seem to beep like I’m getting close to something and end up hitting it lol. Same issue with the fronts as well but I don’t hit anything as it is in front of me lol. Can anyone help me on the issue work the sensors please as it is very annoying on why they are not working even tho there is a Long beep when engaging reverse thanks

You can easily check if a reversing sensor is working or not. It only takes one failure to render all four Fubar. Ignition on, don't start engine, engage reverse (and handbrake!). Put your ear to each sensor in turn. The working ones emit a quiet rapid clicking sound, the dead ones don't.
On an Audi A4 Avant B7 you can replace the rear corner ones from underneath with lots of contortion and pain, the centre ones requires complete removal of the rear bumper. easy but time consuming.
