hi there

is there a code for turning the "break pads" warning light off?
it's a major fail with the new MOT coming this year.
if it'll go on the night before, it'll be handy to be able to turn it off before doing the MOT

Hi,

Even if this was possible (which I don't think it is), it would be irresponsible and potentially dangerous to do. I'd be surprised if you find anyone willing to try. Imagine the liability implications if someone bypassed the warning and the car was subsequently involved in an accident that killed a person, because the brakes were dangerously worn. Anyone previously tampering with the brake safety warning would likely be held equally culpable.

Do the right thing and replace the pads if they are near the end of their life.

There isn't a code and nothing that a new set of pads won't fix.

somehow my lights are coming on when they are 70-75% gone and the squeaking during breaking when they're 80-85%

still a lot of life in them left though

PS: i change both front and rear twice a year.i am doing about 65-70k miles/year with calm driving....

That’s quite a lot but the A6 is a 2 ton barge so things like brakes pads will wear quickly and most being automatic you are more likely to be riding the brakes in slow traffic.

Considering your mileage then twice a year for a pad change seems about on par.

If your pads are squealing, take them to Any garage and they can stop it.

If your warming light is on that early into their life, they have been fitted by an ape or you have a problem. Again, a garage can sort it if you can’t.

There is a way to bypass the warning light but as it’s a safety feature it would be insane to do so.

I bet the pre fl method will work with the fl cars, have you tried it?

Ye I did actually. Probably should have said, sorry. I clicked on Byte 2, then enabled bit 7 (I think it was) but I got something like en error 31 rejection error or similar. out of range i think it also said. perhaps i was doing it wrong.
