    A week ago, I bought a W Reg (2000) Polo 104 SE (65 BHP).

It was working fine for ONE DAY then the engine seemed to give me a cough (& on some occasions, conk out) then refused to go over 3000RPM.

It seems fine after it's had a rest of at least 30 minutes then it will start first time, drive for a few miles then it will have it's cough the that'll be me back to being limited to 3000 RPM.

This has got worse over the course of the week, Today it completley conked out & took over 10 minutes of trying to get it going again.

On occasions the ESP light has showed itself but not on every occasion.

Please help! I only bought this car as I had been told that VW are very reliable, solid cars & I need a decent little motor for my 36 mile round trip to work each day.

    Many Thanks

    Andrew

I'm guessing that it was a private sale, because otherwise you should go straight back to wherever you bought the car. Not sure what the legal standpoint is for private sales.

You need to get it code read.
    2002 Polo 9n 1.2 65PS. Basic but it's better than the train!

I've had it code read, & it staes these Codes:

    16706 Engine Speed Sensor (G28) - PO134-35-10 - No Signal Intermittent.
    16705 Engine Speed Sensor (G28) - PO321-35-10 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent.
