Audi recomended mine for 75k miles or 5 years whichever came first.

I happened to be having a new cylinder head replacement around 63k miles so I got it done for £150 at that time ( ie early ) rather than waiting and paying for the labour and a total of around £400 iirc

I'm now at 107k miles so will probably get it changed again at around 125k miles

Our dealer also confirmed 75k or 5 years and noted it was age due at the service completed yesterday (2008 B8). My only question would be is the need to change the belt due to age as critical as mileage? Our car is at 59k, well short of the recommended distance.

I guess its like everything else spitz......your pays your money you take your chances, its your car and you have to make up your own mind in the end.

There are many instances of people driving around for years and stellar miles on the original belt, but that may be more good luck than good judgement.

As it happens my wifes VW Passat 53 plate ic coming up for around 80k miles I guess, she bought the car with 28k on it at around 4 and a half years old.....the timing belt is still the original and long overdue changing.

I've told her this and checked prices, VW want £500 but a local Audi /VW Indy specialist will do it for £288 and that she's living on borrowed time, but its still going strong.....we'll see I guess.

She doesn't drive it hard at all, ever.....but its still a lottery IMO

    Hope it helps

My car is going in for a service next monday and im going to get them to check it. My car is 4 years old but only 38000 miles.

If its 60k or 4 years, for piece of mind and knowing im keeping the car, i might just get it changed. Wouldnt like the cost of replacing all the bits and pieces if it failed.

Up to you and perhaps a wise precaution, but as I said, Audi recomended 75k or 5 years, so I would check first as you should be ok for another year according to them

As I said and for the record, my wife's Passat is now at around 80k and 9 - 10 yrs old still on the original belt.....not that I recomend that obviously.
I'm sure she'll listen at some point soon and get it done, hopefully BEFORE any major damage is done

Give your Audi main dealer a ring to see if they have it on record. I'd go with 5 years and 60k miles on 4-cylinder engines and 5 years and 80k miles on 6-cylinder engines. Replace the water-pump at the same time and use a new tensioner kit.

Main dealers can still be very good for this type of work if you go for fixed price job.

My service book doesn't call for a change until 133k, no time interval mentioned.
