    Hi
My headlights were fine on my Audi A4 B8 before its first MOT. I sat in the viewing area while the MOT was being carried out, and while they were testing the Head Light Aim, I noticed the guy get out a tool an twiddle something on the head lights?
Since driving my car now at night, when I now select Main Beam nothing much appears to change? except I now notice my Main Beam lights are shining up in the tree tops somewhere!!! Surely this can't be correct? Seem like he's set them way too high to avoid dazzling oncoming drives perhapes ? but I now don't get a clear view up the road? Great if your looking for low flying aircraft lol.
I am going to set them back down myself I see there are some white crosshead screw adjusters? I just wanted to check which ones are for up/down movement as the alignment sideways back and forth is still ok.

i would go back and ask the tester to check them. it could be his testing machine needs calibrating, and you could save him a lot of bother if you go back and mention it.

No, I'm not wasting my fuel and time to drive back there!! If their machine is out of calibration that's there problem, I have got my cine projector screen out and some masking tape to mark centres of the Main Beams, I shall do it myself on the drive then I know it will be correct, I don't really want to see the tree tops anymore lol.

An update on my Main Beams....

I sorted it out with the aid of the use of my Cine Projection Screen and a long cross head pt1 screw driver. I first marked the position of the height setting screws that the charley at the MOT station had put them in, I found I had to wind the height adjusters back down a whole two full turns to get the same light pattern I was getting before, so I could actually see up the road and not illuminate the tree tops in the distance when the main beams were on! lol. I also note that the electrical adjustment switch in the car, the little thumb dial with 0,1,2 only effects the dip beam patterns and not the main beams, so now I can put this switch back to setting "0" and not have a dark gap inbetween the light pattern from the dip beams and the main beam patterns, instead the main beams now forms as an extension to the of illumination of the road surface up and beyond the dip beam patterns when the main beam is activated. Happy again once more :-)
