    Hi please help!

I just went to open the bonnet of my 2007 Touran and the bonnet release handle moved all the way without releasing the bonnet. Given that it is Easter Sunday and I am driving to France tomorrow, I would like to check the levels before I go! Yes, stupid me for leaving it so late, but does anyone know how to get the bonnet open without using the bonnet release cable?

A bit late for the OP but hopefully this will help others.
If you can't open your bonnet because the cable is snapped or handle broken then I found this worked for me on a 2005 Touran (try it at your own risk). Noteon't bother removing the engine floorpan as its pointless.
First you need to prise off the VW badge on the grille - I did this by leveraging with a blunt large ring spanner (20mm±) through the gaps in the VW logo and then prised the badge out with a screwdriver, be careful not to use too much force. Once this was done you should be able to see part but not all of the heads of the 3 bolts holding the mechanism. Push gently upwards with a large flatblade screwdriver (through the badge hole) on the plastic partially covering the heads to give access to the Torx head, you'll need a 150mm extension bar on your ratchet if you are using one. Remove the two long centre bolts. The left most torx headed bolt isn't covered but is a bit fiddly to reach but you can get it through the grille (its shorter). Once you have all 3 bolts removed give you're bonnet a pull upwards and the bonnet catch mechanism should go with it. Once its open you can check the ball headed cable which should be held in place at the lower rear (looking onto front of car) of the mechanism. Be careful not to damage the microswitch (for wipers apparently) but it can be removed by pushing the tab and sliding the heads out of the keyhole slots. The cable if broken is in two parts and joins a short way along the front of the car. I found this method caused minimal damage if your a careful.

Give the catch mechanism a good clean and work some fresh grease into it before replacing on the car.
