    Hi Folks,
I am going to look at a 2004 Audi A6 1.9 TDI 130 SE Multitronic Diesel Avant this evening.
Any of you good people on this site have any tips to look for when buying a car of this age please?
    Cheers,
    JJT

    Hi there,

As you know its Easter weekend so there won't be many people around as there normally is but I'm sure it won't be too long before someone comes along.

Have a quick look through the previous threads on the C5 and see if there are any recurring questions.

I am sure most users will say, not the "multichronic" gearbox !!! go for a tiptronic or manual instead.

    Joe,
Thanks for replying - the advert mentions 'Multitronic' in the title but 'tiptronic' in the body of the text. It's an auto so which is likely to have? Or are they both the same?
    Any comments gratefully received please?
    Cheers,
    JJT

Tiptronic is on quattro, multitronic on 2wd,
check all electrics work, Windows central locking, look under the battery tray, if pools of water there may be damage to convenience module, check cv boots aren't split, on auto boxes make sure gear change is smooth and fully operational.

    Regards

    Andy

If you are detrermined to get an Audi (or VW), seriously think of investing in the Ross-Tech VCDS system. (USB2 cable + smarts that connects your laptop or pc to the multi-pin input port in the car + the VCDS software). With this you can check for any faults reported by the VAG system on the car. Checking for faults is a SAFE function - ie you cannot do any harm and it takes about 5mins. The output will be a full systems check on the health of the car. If you ar buying from a dealer ask if they have the equivalent and if they will show you the printed results.
As in other posts, you also need to do the various visual checks.
    Best of luck.
