This problem has happened a few times but for only about 5 to 10 seconds at a time. When I am accelarating I notice that the revs increase but the cars accelaration becomes very lethargic. So the reves can reach 4000rpm and the speed struggles to get over 40mph. I ease of the accelarator and normal performance resumes. Although it can feel like a clutch slipping I am sure that this is not the case (multitronic) and am thinking its more turbo/fuel related. The fault code reads
"0575 Intake manifold pressure 08-10 control limit surpassed"
    Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like the turbo might be over bossting. Could be either a knackerd wastegate or the VNT acutator might be sticking, or a more serious fault with the turbo.

Do you have VAG-Com? There are some Measured Values you can read to determine which of these might be at fault. PM me your email if you want me to send the details.

I hopefully have solved the problem as it has not recurred since. It was probably sticking vanes or the actuator, but as it only happened about 3 times over as many months, it is difficult to know exactly what could have been the cause. I used cataclean in a high dosage, so that may have cleaned the system. Using a vacuum pump, the actuator moves freely, so until it happens again, I can't do much more.
I found a very good post which explains some theory and how to check the various parts of the system. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/181...urbo-problems/

It happens to my 1.9 tdi, always when going up this same hill when the engine/turbo is under constant load. If I stop and turn the ignition off the problem seems to clear. I have never been brave enough to dig deeper incase I find something i don't like (and my wallet has to get a lot lighter!).

Just for reference, this was a turbo problem. I wasted £95 on an N75 valve before I found this out! A re-condition of the turbo solved it.
