Hi, i have 54 plate A6 3.2 fsi se quattro engine code AUK. I have just been told that the engine is basically wrecked and require a replacement. I have sourced an engine from a 55 plate A4 3.2 quattro and visually it looks the same from the pictures i have seen. The A4 engine code is BPK. iam wondering if anyone on the site can help information regarding the compatibility of these engines, thanks in advance

    Hi there,

It would seem that this is the same as the AUK engine from this:

    http://www.audiforums.com.au/engines...ions-t147.html

However from this it would appear the power output could be different:

There is one advertised here is this what you found?

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-A4-A6...item3cc350e58c

Maybe worth asking them as they seem a reputable seller if they could verify and maybe fit? Other than the physical dimensions, you need to look at ancilliaries lining up (water pipes etc) and the electrical side such as will it work with your ECU, MMI etc.

Out of interest are you sure the engine is beyond economic repair, has it done high mileage, did a cam chain snap etc?

    Hi All,
The engine off ebay in the bottom link was why i needed to know about the codes, turns out the seller had entered the wrong code and it is indeed the engine i needed and have now bought. To put you all in the picture the hydraulic tensioner in the original engine packed up causing the timing to jump and wreck 10 valves, after a strip down the variable valve timing pulleys where found to be needing replaced as the teeth where razor sharp and the the dual mass flywheel was junked as well. Totaling all this up with new timing chain kit , vvt pulleys, clutch ,dual mass flywheel then new valves etc it was more economical to find a replacement engine. The car has only covered 62000 miles with full service history and has wanted for nothing, seems a bit soon to be needing all this engine work to me
    Thanks for all the help,
    Regards Brendan

AUK an BUH are the same but both have a 2006 revision in the cylinder heads regarding the exhaust valves. The BPK was only used in the A8.

Glad you are getting there Brendan,

Would it be too expensive to change some of the timing gear parts before you put the replacment engine in as a precaution.

Was thinking about that and prevention is better than cure so will do a timing chain kit etc on the replacement engine, dont fancy having to change the variable valve pulleys though as they are approx £280 +V.A.T each !

    Sounds a good plan.

Just out of interest does anyone know if something can be done to spot such a failure in advance? Would anything show up for example on a VCDS scan with regard to excess play in the valvegear? All the gubbins is at the rear of the engine so I guess nothing could be removed to take a look. Would something like an endoscope be of use? Just ideas but such failures are very expensive so if there was a way to spot signs in advance that would be very useful for people to know.

Here's a pic of the chains I found before:

Maybe if you popped a rocker cover off you could see enough...
