    Hi,

Just before I buy a second hand complete ignition from ebay I need to check the dimensions on the 97 one I'm buying is the same as my 98?

I went to the scrappy to source one today The mk4 golf, Seat, A4 and Passat ignitions all looked the same - but alas none had keys!

    Still good fun looking though!

I'm trying to change the whole ignition cylinder because the internal 'pin' that goes into the ignition starter has snapped clean off.
I've sourced a 'new' one with a key/barrel/main cylinder/ignition switch that I'm picking up later.
I was gonna swap the whole thing out and just use the ignition key from the donor part - do you think this will be ok? Or will I get immobilzer issues?

You would have to swap the old keys chip into the new key and they are extremely fragile.

All done! She lives to see another day.
I ended up swapping my original key/barrel into the 'new' ignition cylinder and fitted it the whole thing. The hardest part was getting the security bolts off - they do their job!
I'll put up some pics and a run through of what I did when I get a chance, might help others with the same issue.
    Thanks for the replies
