  1. How to bleed out air from the cooling system on a 1.9TDI?

When I open the expansion tank cap on my Mk5 1.9TDI, there's a whoosh of air and the coolant level rises by about 2cm. This coupled with the fact that the heating is only blowing lukewarm makes me think there is air in the system.

What's the correct way to bleed out air from the coolant system?

    Thanks in advance.

What's one of these and how does this work, then?!

Are there no bleed points for air around the coolant system, on the Mk5?

You may want to check your getting flow into the expansion tank from the small pipe ie the return if it is not flowing steadily back then I would suspect water pump impeller may have fallen off this causes improper circulation of coolant around the system higher pressure and poor if any heat within the car. It's also worth knowing that vw are very easy bled ie run it without the cap onfrom cold topping it up untill it has the correct level road test it at least five miles let it cool down and recheck if level is good that's it if not top up and done!!!
