    Hi Guys,

I recently purchase an audi a8 3.0 tdi quattro sport and I love the car . I know it is due a service in may 2012 and I wanted to find out what exacty is entailed in this service.

in may 2012 the car will be exactly 6 years old, with 38k miles and 2 previous services from audi main dealer as its on the long life servicing plan.

I called up two audi dealers local to me and the prices/servicables and quite different and they seem confused on what they are saying and appears they are just reading off a screen rather than having knowledge of the car.

If anyone could shed some light on this I would be really grateful.

    Thanks

    Oil Change
    Filter Change
    pollen filter change
    Fuel Filter change
    Air Filter Change
    Full saftey check and
    Gearbox oil change

All this was a shy under 650.00 GBP Wow Now i know its an a8 but dam thats a steep price. anyone else had experience with prices etc etc

£115 an hour Labour and inflated parts and fluids prices is what makes Audi's bog standard work a rip-off.
Everything on your list apart from the gearbox oil change is so very easy to do.

The cheaper option is do it yourself or get a good independent, but be prepared they may not have a unique aluminium sculpture by Jeremya Blumstein in the entrance atrium.
You could always call the dealer again and ask if they do cheaper servicing on vehicles over 3 years old as VW, BMW and Vauxhall and probably others do.

Audi do fixed price servicing for cars over three years old aswell....take a look at their website. Off the top of my head a minor service is £149 and a major is £299.....but double check first....my memory may be a little suspect! ;-)

Ok...just checked for you....I'm afraid they dont include the A8 in their 'affordable service plan'. Its also only for cars upto 2.0 engines.... http://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/se...servicing.html

Thanks for the reply guys. It's honestly madness that the find it acceptable to charge 115 pounds an hour.

Neilos you are right about the fixed pricing. I seen to get quoted 305 but then on top of that I get added a fuel filter and gearbox oil change coming to the 605.

They are trying to charge 116.75 for fuel filter is it me thinking of old times or are fuel filters really this much. I thought they would be around 40 quid tops. 116. I hope it's gold plated lol

You are right, I bought a MAHLE fuel filter Made in Austria from Opie Oils for £42ish when they had an offer on, the genuine Audi one I took off was UFI - Made in China.
Even the tupenny hapenny pollen filter I bought from Audi was about £36. I was too embarrassed to say no at the time.

As SnapDragon says most of the things on your list are easy to do except the gearbox, and I would not recommend you try that yourself unless you are very confident in what you are doing and even then I would say that is a job best left to the experts.

I have been servicing my A8 myself for the past 3 years and so would be happy to show you location and instuctions for most of the jobs on your list if you want to give it a go yourself?

For the Oil Change I use Castrol Edge 5W30 (£35 for 4 litres) and you will need around 8 litres. Fuel Filter is about £55 from Euro Car Parts.

Hi Happy Dan, wow if you could point me in the right direction for all the servicing parts and how to do guide I would be really grateful.

Hey Jakeob, I have heard some discussions over this matter. When the A8 first came out everyone was advised, sealed for life etc and that only really needed a change maybe at 100k however in approx 2009 audi soon changed their minds and decided it was best to have the gearbox oil and filter changed at 40k, this is not my opinion its just what I have been advised. All views would be great.

    Thanks
