    Hi

It's getting obvious that the original car battery is on it's last leg and needs replacement but I'm a bit confused which replacement I should get.

    Currently has a Varta 12v battery, 280mm x 175mm, 70ah, 340A DIN.
Other things on the label are IJO 915 10 5 AE, if that helps

Halfords seem to be a no go as they only have wider batteries and they seem to the wrong voltage.

Seen Varta batteries on other websites much cheaper and was hoping someone might know if I need an E38, E44 or something else ?

    Any advice ?

Varta Batteries are good TBH but if it was me id fit a bosch battery, when you say you need a new battery is it going flat or cranking over slowly? being a Varta in your car at the moment i would have thought it has been replaced at some point

    Hi Phil

I've had the car since it was about 9 months old from the dealer so hadn't thought it would have been replaced. Always a possibility though..

It cranks over really slowly and has got more noticeably over the last few weeks.

ok, it does sound like the battery is on its way out, does it start ok when its hot, or does it crank over for ages before it starts? the 1.9 in tourans and golf mk5s suffer from slow starting when hot and its normally down to the starter motor drawing to much current

Just fitted a bosch to our Sharan. Old one was the original, not bad fo a 52plate eh? We got ours from Costco, £70 compared to about £120 from Halfords for the same one. Costco book says a much bigger battery though, the one we got was same as original size and still higher output, 75 amph instead of 70.

So I'd suggest getting to your nearest costco.
