    VCDS= Vag- Com Diagnostic System is made by an American company called RossTech. It can scan and be used to correct faults ect in all VAG Mfd. vehicles. It is also expensive unless you are using it a lot (£270). Go to their webpage for more detail

    VCDS = Vag-Com Diagnostic System . MFd. by Ross-tech. Ross-Tech: VCDS Tour
    IT works on all VAG Mfd. vehicles and is almost as good as the dealer diagnostic system called VAS. costs circa. £270 from Gendan in the UK.
    Ebay has Chinese clones but not recommended on this forum.
    sorry for the double post but the 1st one took a long time to show up.

    I see a lot of these mk5's with signal problems usually the main offender is a leak in the rear washer pipe which causes the connections and wiring loom to corrode giving weak or no signal. Can be fixed ordering new cable from a main dealer and connectors but you will need to know if it is a single wire or dual. Also connected are two boosters which as above I think states you might be able to scan for with the right scanner.

    Hi Richard,

    Do you have any idea what sort of money I will likely have to pay in order to sort out the problem or should I wait until the fault is found before asking this question

    Kind regards and thanks for the help

    Morning Walter,
    Most charges for labour I would expect to be around £50 per hour and at the dealer £70. A car radio specialist might give you a quote all in.
    Parts needed ie cable and tailgate amp could run to around £70 so I think to have someone do the job for you professionally a ball part figure of £150 is not too far off the mark.
    Do you have a friend who could help you then you only have the parts and beer token costs. Remember to isolate the battery if you mess around with the wiring.
    I can supply you some workshop info if you try to tackle it yourself but you will have to give me a private email address via the PM system.
    I will not be around for the next two days.
